সবুজ পাতার ডেস্ক : অতি দরিদ্র দূর্ঘটনায় পঙ্গু শান্তি জীবন চাকমার প্রতি সহযোগীতার হাত বাড়িয়ে দিলেন কৃষক আবু তাহের। আবু তাহেরের এ মহতী উদ্যোগে অন্যরাও অনুপ্রাণিত হবে এবং পাহাড়ে সম্প্রীতির বন্ধন আরো দৃঢ় হবে। পাহাড়ে শান্তির সু-বাতাস বইবে, জয় হবে মানবতার।
খাগড়াছড়ির দিঘীনালা উপজেলার বড় মেরুং জুরজুরি পাড়ার শুশী মোহন চাকমার সন্তান শান্তি জীবন চাকমা দূর্ঘনায় উরুর হাড় ভেঙ্গে পঙ্গু হয়ে পড়ে। শান্তি জীবন চাকমা ৩ মাস পূর্বে রাঙ্গামাটির লংগদু উপজেলার বাট্টে পাড়ার গাছ ব্যবসায়ী মিল্লাত মেম্বারের গাছ কাটার কাজে নিয়োজিত ছিল। গাছ ব্যবসায়ীর অসাবধানতা বশত: একটি গাছ শান্তি জীবন চাকমার উপর পড়লে তার উরুর হাড় ভেঙে যায়। গাছ ব্যবসায়ী মিল্লাত চিকিৎসার মিথ্যা আশ^াস দিয়ে আহত অবস্থায় শান্তি জীবন চাকমাকে তার নিজ বাড়িতে পঠিয়ে দিয়ে আর কোন খোঁজ খবর নেয় নি এবং কোন চিকিৎসারও ব্যবস্থা করেনি।
শান্তি জীবন চাকমা বিনা চিকিৎসায় পঙ্গু হয়ে অতি কষ্টে দিন যাপন করলেও চাকমা সম্প্রদায়ের কেউ তার চিকিৎসায় এগিয়ে আসেনি। শান্তি জীবন চাকমার আর্থিক অবস্থা খুবই শোচনীয়, তার আয় রোজগারের কেউ নেই। স্ত্রী নেই, বড় মেয়ে স্বামীর সংসারে আর ছেলের বয়স মাত্র ১৩ বছর। আত্মীয় স্বজনও গরীব।
পাশর্^বর্তী এলাকা বাঁচা মেরুং বি-বাড়িয়া পাড়ার বাসিন্দা কৃষক আবু তাহের শান্তি জীবন চাকমার এহেন দূরাবস্থার কথা শুনে খুবই ব্যথিত হন। তিনি জাতি ভেদা-ভেদ ভুলে শান্তি জীবন চাকমার চিকিৎসর জন্য নিজ খরচে গত বুধবার খাগড়াছড়ি সরকারি হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করান। এ পর্যন্ত আবু তাহের শান্তিজীবন চাকমার জন্য প্রায় সাত হাজার টাকার মতো খরচ করেছেন।
কৃষক আবু তাহের জানান, আমি বিনা স্বার্থেই তার চিকিসার জন্য হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করিয়েছি। আমার কাছে পাহাড়ি-বাঙ্গালী বলে কোন ভেদা-ভেদ নাই। মানুষ তো মানুষের জন্যই।
শান্তি জীবন চাকমা বলেন, আহত হওয়ার সঠিক তারিখ আমার মনে নাই। আনুমানিক ৩ মাস হবে। আমি লংগদু বাট্টে পাড়ার মিল্লাত মেম্বারের গাছের কাজে গিয়েছিলাম। উপর থেকে একটা গাছ এসে আমার গায়ে পড়লে আমার উরুর হাড় ভেঙ্গে যায়। মিল্লাত মেম্বার আমাকে বাড়িতে পাঠিয়ে দিয়ে আর মোবাইলও রিসিভ করে না। আমার শুধু ১৩ বছরের একটা ছেলে আছে। স্ত্রীও নাই। পঙ্গু হয়ে অনেক কষ্টে ছিলাম। বাঙ্গালী ভাই আবু তাহের আমাকে প্রথমে তার বাড়ি নিয়ে একদিন রেখে পরের দিন হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করে দিয়েছে। টাকা পয়সা আবু তাহের ভাই খরচ করতেছে। আমার অপারেশন লাগবে। কেউ যদি আমার অপারেশনের ব্যবস্থা করে দিতো তাহলে তো ভগবানের আশির্বাদে আমি আগের মতো কাজ কর্ম করে চলতে পারতাম’’।

Shanti Jiban Chakma, the son of Shushi Mohan Chakma of Boro Merung Jurjuri Para in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari, broke his thigh bone in the accident. Shanti Jiban Chakma was engaged in cutting trees for Millat Member, a tree trader in Batte Para in Langadu Upazila of Rangamati 3 months ago. Due to the tree trader’s carelessness, a tree fell on Shanti Jiban Chakma and broke his thigh bone. The tree trader Millat sent Shanti Jiban Chakma to his own home in an injured state with false hope of treatment, and did not inquire further and did not arrange for any treatment.
Shanti Jiban Chakma is living in extreme hardship without treatment, but no one from the Chakma community has come forward to treat him. Shanti Jiban Chakma’s financial condition is very deplorable, he has no income. He has no wife, his eldest daughter is in her husband’s family and his son is only 13 years old. His relatives are also poor.
Farmer Abu Taher, a resident of the neighboring area of Bacha Merung Bi-Baria Para, was very saddened to hear about Shanti Jiban Chakma’s plight. Forgetting caste differences, he admitted Shanti Jiban Chakma to the Khagrachari Government Hospital at his own expense last Wednesday for his treatment. So far, Abu Taher has spent about seven thousand taka on Shanti Jiban Chakma.
Farmer Abu Taher said, I admitted her to the hospital for treatment without any interest. For me, there is no difference between Pahari and Bengali. People are for people.
Shanti Jiban Chakma said, I do not remember the exact date of injury. It must have been approximately 3 months. I went to work on the trees of a Millat member in Langadu Batte Para. A tree fell on me from above and broke my thigh bone. The Millat member sent me home and did not even receive the mobile phone. I have only a 13-year-old son. I do not have a wife. I was in a lot of trouble because I was paralyzed. Bengali brother Abu Taher first took me to his house for a day and admitted me to the hospital the next day. Abu Taher is spending all the money. I need an operation. If someone had arranged for my operation, then with the blessings of God, I could have continued working as before.
